WhiteStone, North Carolina’s first senior living community, will hold a Grand Opening Celebration featuring 46 spacious new residences, expanded amenities and enhanced common areas on Saturday, August 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the WhiteStone Auditorium at 700 South Holden Road. The celebration, which coincides with WhiteStone's 100-year anniversary, will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication, guided tours and live music.

Expansion Meets Critical Need
The $30 million expansion of the popular WhiteStone senior living community is helping meet a critical need in Greensboro, as a growing population of seniors pursues active lifestyles in communities known for outstanding wellness and continuing care. WhiteStone has already sold 80% of the 46 newly built, spacious one- and two-bedroom, independent living apartments.

The new residences, totaling 81,390 square feet, range from 844 square feet for a one-bedroom to 1,299 square feet for a two-bedroom with sunroom. Residences are designed to ensure plenty of natural light –with large windows and spacious closets, the latest kitchens and bathrooms, and other current amenities. The residences have ample kitchens and great rooms perfect for entertaining. The open floor plans include upgraded finishes with granite counters, crown molding and balconies.

As part of the expansion, WhiteStone also completed extensive renovations to the common areas, which have been updated to offer more amenities and lifestyle enhancements, such as a new clubhouse, library, salon, indoor and outdoor dining where meals are cooked to order, new coffee bistro with fresh baked goods, and sports pub.

Located at the heart of the 42-acre campus, the newly renovated Linville Clubhouse includes 12,000 square feet of renovated space and 4,820 square feet of new space. In addition to the Clubhouse, a 360-degree sports pub with all glass walls, invites residents to socialize and enjoy refreshments before proceeding to the newly renovated 4,900 square foot dining room. In all, there is 39,157 square feet of renovated or new common spaces.

WhiteStone Renovation Overview
The renovations and additions at WhiteStone reflect the community's leadership in providing the latest in senior living. Many of these areas, along with models of the residences, are available for viewing on the tour at the Grand Opening:

  •     New indoor and outdoor dining venues offer a cooked-to-order menu
  •     Activity room for playing cards, board games or simply visiting with a neighbor
  •     Formal living room that’s perfect for current events discussions
  •     WhiteStone Convenience Store (it has all the essentials)
  •     New coffee shop offers a variety of specialty beverages and baked goods
  •     New sports pub
  •     A spa offers hairstyling, manicures, pedicures and massage therapy
  •     Woodworking/Arts & Crafts room
  •     Multiple garden plots for growing vegetables and flowers
  •     Fitness and Aquatic Centers that offer exercise classes

The community at WhiteStone compliments all this with just the right amount of personal assistance, when and if needed. In addition to independent living, residents can also take advantage of assisted living or in-home care services or even skilled care from a nurse temporarily after surgery or long-term.

“We are proud to carry forward our 100-year tradition of excellence,” says Mark Kolada, Executive Director of WhiteStone. “As a senior living pioneer, we remain committed to leading the way in Greensboro. We’re meeting the high demand for new residences with our expansion, and our enhanced common areas are enabling us to continue developing a community that provides an active and fulfilling lifestyle for today’s seniors.” In fact, WhiteStone won the 2012 National Association of Home Builders “Best of 50+ Housing” Silver Award.

The architect on WhiteStone’s expansion project was AG Architecture, a Wisconsin-based firm with 40+ years of experience in innovative senior living design. Interiors were handled by Spellman Brady & Company out of St. Louis, Mo., a nationally recognized interior planning and design firm that specializes in health care, higher education and senior living.
