According to Active Healthy Kids Canada, children spend six hours a day in front of television, video game and computer screens. It is no surprise then that the 2011 Canadian Health Measures Survey showed that today's Canadian children and youth are heavier, fatter, rounder and weaker than they were a generation ago.

It means we are raising a generation of future unhealthy adults. According to the World Health Organization, overweight and obese children are likely to stay obese into adulthood, not to mention this problem puts them at risk for diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular at a younger age.

“As a vitamin company, we know that vitamins alone cannot change these shocking statistics,” says Stuart Lowther, founder and CEO of Life Science Nutritionals, the maker of IronKids. “But we feel that by sponsoring events, supporting them within our community and having our own three children participate, we can make a difference.”

IronKids is proud to be an official sponsor of SunRype TRi KiDS triathlons across Canada for children ages 3 to 15. Every participant will receive a special edition IronKids Gummy TRi KiDS water bottle plus samples of IronKids Gummy Vitamins in their race kits.

IronKids also donated vitamins to Trigator4Kids triathlon, which is part of Canadian Tires JumpStart Kids program and MultiSport Canada, the largest multi-sport event organizer in Western Canada. 2012 saw Life Science Nutritionals become the Title Sponsor of Burlington Moon in June Road Race which sees 500 kids cross the finish to a roaring round of applause from family members.

Kids need to stay active and we hope that by participating in fun runs, bikes and triathlons we can encourage kids across Canada.”

Many of the events IronKids supports also raise money for children’s charities, such as Gabrielles Ride for Cardiac Kids and Pediatric Stroke, Erica’s Wish that makes blankets for children entering the oncology wing of Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

“These families are encouraging kids to stay active while bringing awareness to health issues they have experienced, raise money for research and to bring comfort to children in hospitals who are unable to participate,” says Deborah Lowther Event Coordinator for Life Science Nutritionals.

IronKids Gummy Vitamins wants all kids to experience active play and the reward of being involved in an organized event because being a healthy kid means being involved in healthy activities.
