Atlanta Falcons star running back Michael Turner, famous for turning the slightest of openings into big gains, will try his hand at turning dough into gourmet cupcakes for charity at the “Gimme Some Suga” Bakery Bar located at 320 Town Center Avenue in Suwanee, Georgia, on July 24th from 10:00am to 1:00pm. A portion of all proceeds from this unique celebrity bake sale will benefit the Atlanta Division of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.

“We can’t wait to put Michael to work baking cupcakes, running the cash register, maybe even sweeping the floor,” laughed Tamika Tanner, owner of the gourmet bakery that specializes in gourmet cupcakes and cheesecakes made fresh daily. “He’s been a very good customer, along with about 10 other Falcon players who often stop in, so we’re expecting a large number of sweet treat-loving football fans.”

For Turner, a powerful runner who posted a league best 21 carries of 15 yards or greater last year, it’s the chance to bring awareness to a serious disease that receives very little attention – Crohn’s disease.

“I’m going to have a blast cooking cupcakes for my fans, and regular customers of the bakery. But most importantly, it’s a tremendous opportunity to let people know about Crohn’s disease, which is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal track,” said Turner, an explosive running back who has been actively involved in a number of charities throughout his pro career. “I know about this disorder, because I have two brothers who have suffered with Crohn’s disease, and I’ve seen how it can adversely impact somebody’s life. I’m looking forward to helping raise awareness and money for continuing research to hopefully find a cure for this disease.”

According to Tanner, who says that Turner’s favorite cupcake at the shop is Red Velvet, she has a few surprises up her sleeve for the popular running back.

“We are going to have some University of Georgia Drum Majorettes here to perform a few routines for everybody, and I’m going to try to get Michael to join in for a number or two… we’ll see,” she smiled. “Above all, it’s just going to be a great time for a wonderful cause – and delicious goodies to go with it.”
