DEARBORN, Mich. (PRWEB) July 23, 2012
For 60 years, Applied Handing has continued to bring innovative products to customers and prove itself to be an evolving, industry leading Detroit company.
Since opening as a one man material handling equipment distributor in 1952, Robert Bacon’s vision set the course for 60 years of success. Bacon made his mark by introducing equipment that significantly improved the loading dock operations for companies such as Stroh Brewery, Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
Throughout its 60 years, company management has changed, but the company has continued to introduce industry changing products that improve safety and enhance productivity and energy efficiency. Applied Handling was the first in Michigan to introduce products such as the truck actuated dock leveler, high speed doors, Safe-T-Lip dock levelers and trailer restraints. The company is also a proud recipient of the Value Added Award, from Material Handling Engineering Magazine, for integrating its loading dock systems into just-in-time shipping and receiving operations.
Applied Handling continues to evolve and set the industry standard by joining the digital conversation. Recognizing the importance of social networks, Applied Handling has joined Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to expand its market reach. Additionally, Applied Handling has created a blog to keep customers up to date on new products, trends and company updates.
“While we do share information about new products in our blog, we also us it as a means to expose more about our company,” said Craig Sturgis, director of finance at Applied Handling. “Celebrating our 60th anniversary, we just completed a 4 part series on the history of Applied Handling and are in the process of rolling out a new series called ‘Meet the Staff.’“
Today, Applied Handling continues to dominate the loading dock industry and remains a Tier One supplier to the automotive industry. Additionally, the company is becoming increasingly known for its broad capability in specialty doors and recently completed a 60’ x 40’ x 2’ concrete filled acoustical door for the aerospace industry.
Originally located in Detroit, Applied Handling moved its headquarters to Dearborn in 1973.
“We appreciate all businesses that choose to be part of our community, especially those like Applied Handling that have invested in, and operated in, Dearborn for decades.” Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. said. “I congratulate Applied Handling on their 60th year and look forward to their continued success.”
Applied Handling staffs 50 employees and has opened facilities in cities across the state including Saginaw in 1972, Grand Rapids in 1992, Lincoln Park in 1994 and Flint in 2008, which moved to Clio in 2011.
