CIEE is excited to announce that it has been named the world’s top seller of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®) Institutional Testing Program (ITP) for 2011. Under the leadership of CIEE Director of Japan Kazu Otake, more than 150,000 tests were sold during the year, far exceeding targets. CIEE was able to maintain test volumes in 2011 despite the challenges facing many colleges and universities, including the March earthquake and tsunami that hit the shores of Japan. CIEE was recognized for this important achievement during the Education Testing Service (ETS®) Asia-Pacific regional meeting held June 13-14 in Shanghai, China.
More than 200 institutions globally—including 21 CIEE member universities—use the TOEFL ITP each year. Administered by ETS, the TOEFL ITP assessment series is used by colleges and universities, English language programs, and other agencies throughout the world to measure students’ English language proficiency in order to place students in English language programs; to measure progress throughout the programs; to fulfill a language requirement; or to assess faculty or staff proficiency. CIEE is the exclusive provider of TOEFL ITP tests in Japan, a distinction it has held for 14 years.
For 65 years, as the world leader in international educational exchange, CIEE has helped thousands of students, professionals, and educators gain the knowledge and skills necessary to live and work in a globally independent and culturally diverse world by offering the most comprehensive, relevant, and valuable exchange programs available. CIEE has offices in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka, Japan, and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in Japan in 2015.
