Women will be More Active Than Men on Social Media During the Olympics, says TechBargains.com Study

Survey reveals 58% of female Olympics viewers expect to be ‘very active’ in social media compared with 41% of men. Study also indicates that 62% of women plan to interact with social media via laptops and 57% of men expect to use smartphones

The 2012 Summer Olympics is a large-scale, worldwide “social” sporting event, having huge implications for not only viewers, but brands and sports organizations.

TechBargains.com, a deal aggregation website for electronic products, released additional results from its Olympics survey revealing 58% of women expect to be interacting ‘very often’ or ‘often’ on social media during the Olympic Summer games versus 41% of men. The results also indicate that while both men and women primarily post to Facebook (78%), followed by Twitter, more men anticipate to post to YouTube and Google+. Women surveyed indicated that they expect to text friends and post to Pinterest more than men.

“Not only do we anticipate women to be more active than men on social media during the Olympics, but we expect men and women to interact differently with social media platforms and to do so on different devices,” said Yung Trang, president and Editor-in-Chief of TechBargains.com. “The 2012 Summer Olympics is a large-scale, worldwide “social” sporting event, having huge implications for not only viewers, but brands and sports organizations.”

The results also revealed that the majority (62%) of women expect to interact with social media via their laptop while the majority (57%) of men anticipate using their smartphone. Both men and women indicated that cheering for a favorite athlete or team is the primary reason for posting via social media. The survey also found that men favored swimming while women preferred gymnastics.
