"I'm loving every minute of it though and am welcoming the changes into my life. It feels like this is what I'm supposed to be doing!"

Jessilyn Park may be new to the painting scene, but you wouldn't know that from her recent accomplishments. Just months after beginning to paint, she entered Artiste Winery’s national contest to select a special piece of art for their October single vineyard, vintage wine releases.

A panel of judges selected her piece, “Alone Time” as one of 16 finalists from over 200 entries received. The winery’s Facebook fans then voted for their favorite over a two-week period in July. Over 1,100 votes were cast, and Park’s painting scored a decisive victory.

Park had never tried painting at all until late last year. Inspired by a conversation with her grandmother, who had been a painter but had to give it up due to failing eyesight, she first picked up a brush in December, 2011.

In March she traveled to Mexico to apprentice with the world renowned artist Leonid Afremov to learn his exclusive palette knife technique. She has been featured in many galleries in Orlando including City Arts Factory and Baterby's. She has also been commissioned for several pieces including one for a Florida law firm and a cover for Lucidity, a book sold on Amazon.com.

Recently she appeared on WPRK's 91.5FM Local Heroes show and painted live in the studio. "This is all happening so fast", Park explains. "I'm loving every minute of it though and am welcoming the changes into my life. It feels like this is what I'm supposed to be doing!"

Artiste Winery and Tasting Studio was founded in 2002 in Santa Ynez, California by Bion Rice of Sunstone Vineyards and Winery. Combining a reverence for tradition and philosophy of winemaking as an artistic expression, Artiste wines are labeled with gorgeous works of impressionist art. Artiste’s highly sought-after wines are limited productions of less than 300 cases each.
