A new software platform developed for County Councils with an aim to help reduce, re-use and re-trade unwanted items or manufacturing by-products will is now live” online.

Retrader.org.uk is a free, interactive platform, which will be available to all councils across the UK and has been in development for 2 years with The Vyouz Network.

First to trial and launch Retrader.org.uk will be Oxfordshire County Council, which has been able to take advantage of a new iPhone & Android mobile application with a complimenting website, designed to speed up and simplify the recycling and re-using process.

The Council is confident that this will bring big reductions in environmentally damaging practices such as landfill, leading to a more friendly approach to managing the environment.

Gavin Hull, of Oxfordshire County Council’s commercial waste office has worked in collaboration with the developers, Vyouz, on this revolutionary approach to recycling. Gavin said:

“To meet today’s ever increasing demands for reuse & recycling, we felt it made sense to provide help and encouragement to local business and organisations by providing the very latest technologies to them. Retrader.org.uk does just that and we are delighted to be the first council in the UK to trial and launch it.”

The Vyouz Network (Vyouz), is the British developer behind the highly successful consumer website vSkips.co.uk

Len Willis, managing director of Vyouz explains how the success of vSkips.co.uk convinced him that a dedicated service for councils could really begin to make a huge difference in their mission to reduce the huge volume of items being needlessly sent to landfill every year in the UK.

“The interest in the vSkips website since its initial launch to the general public has been fantastic but we knew that if we wanted to make a real impact on the landfill challenge we needed to tackle the issue at every level – especially local authorities.

“We were very fortunate to find a partner in Oxfordshire County Council that shares the same visionary approach to the issue and we worked hard together to find a solution that worked for them as a council. By building on the success of vSkips, we had the foundations in place but what we have now in Retrader.org.uk is a package that is perfectly suited to local authorities and we look forward to rolling out similar schemes across the country with equally far-sighted and ambitious organsiations as Oxfordshire County Council.”
