Nashville Digital Agency Urges Companies, Artists ‘Go Mobile’ with Responsive Web Design to Create Quality Mobile Experience and Save Money

Responsive Design gives mobile users a different view that emphasizes key content with mobile-friendly navigation, says Liz Fulghum of NoSleepForSheep, a Nashville digital agency. Laptop and desktop users still get the full experience. With mobile use growing exponentially, mobile users will move on to competing boutiques, restaurants or service providers with information that is easier to access.

Liz Fulghum of NoSleepForSheep can speak authoritatively on Responsive Design.

Responsive Design is an elegant way to provide a quality Web experience for all potential customers and fans, regardless of the devices they use.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) July 26, 2012

As mobile Internet use explodes, websites that work and look great on all devices meet the needs of customers wherever they are and put smart companies ahead of competitors lacking a clean mobile footprint, says Liz Fulghum of NoSleepForSheep, a Nashville digital agency.

Companies, artists and brands also save some coin on development costs.

The tested approach to creating flexible websites is called Responsive Web Design. Responsive Design does what it says – its design that adapts to the device, Fulghum says.

“Responsive Design gives mobile users a different view that emphasizes key content with mobile-friendly navigation,” Fulghum says. “Laptop and desktop users still get the full experience.”

Such flexibility is vital now; its lack will be a deal-breaker when mobile users move on to competing boutiques, restaurants or service providers with information that is easy to access. Mobile is huge and growing exponentially.

Consider these findings on mobile usage from Google:

  •     One-third of mobile searches are local.
  •     Local searches quadrupled between 2010 and 2011.
  •     Once finding a local business on their smartphone, 61 percent of users called the business. Almost as many visited.

Outside the iPhone and Android world, at least 85 percent of new handsets being sold can access the Web. Three of every four mobile users will wait 5 seconds or less for a site to load before moving on, according to a 2011 survey by CompuServe. Companies, artists and brands cannot afford to ignore these trends, and Responsive Design targets important content for rapid mobile display so mobile users stay engaged.

NoSleepForSheep’s new site for CoLab Nashville, a coworking community in downtown Nashville, is a good example of Responsive Design at work. Mobile users see a simplified vertical menu that quickly takes them to information about memberships, coworking desks, offices and other services. Laptop and desktop users see a homepage with slides, horizontal page menu, member directory and prominent mission statement.

“For most enterprises, separate mobile sites with dedicated content is overkill - and expensive,” Fulghum says. “Responsive Design is an elegant way to provide a quality Web experience for all potential customers and fans, regardless of the devices they use.”
