Russian Cultural History to be Showcased in Sochi

The All-Russian Cultural Forum has opened the second Marathon of the Russian Regions, as part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, in Sochi ahead of the Games. This year, the Marathon will take place in both Sochi and London simultaneously and will be part of the cultural programme representing Russia at the XXX Olympic Games in the United Kingdom.

The groups taking part in the Marathon will bring their unique acts to Sochi. Each act will represent the culture of their regions. The first day of the Marathon will see performances from "Lezginka" (Dagestan) and "Nokhcho" (Chechen Republic).

The Marathon in Sochi will take place from July, 21 to August, 12 in the square next to Sochi's South Pier and in London the event will be held at Russia.Sochi.Park from July, 27 to August, 12.

The All-Russian Cultural Forum traditionally brings together delegates across Russia. Participants attending the event will discuss current issues and trends in modern Russian culture, propose ideas for the regions' participation in the Cultural Olympiad celebration, and discuss events taking place in Sochi in 2014.

The plenary session was attended by the Mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov, the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, and the Sochi 2014 Ambassador and artistic director of the Kuban Cossack Choir, Viktor Zakharchenko.

There will be two main aspects at the Forum: "The Cultural Program for the 2014 Games. Plans, vision, trends" and "The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad's Year of the Museums (2013). Program, vision, best practice."

During the sessions, the director of the Central House of Artists, Vasily Bychkov, spoke about modern trends in art, the director of the "Vinzavod" Modern Art Centre, Elena Panteleeva, shared her experience in staging the "Night of the museums". And Evgenya Voskoboinikova, a presenter from the TV channel "Rain", discussed the importance of art and told how fashion is helping to integrate people with disabilities.

On the evening of 21st July the II Marathon of the Russia Regions will begin, the concerts will last over two weeks and bring together 40 different ensembles from around the country.

The children's musical theatre group "Domisolka", from Moscow will also perform. The festival, which comes to an end on 12th August, will also include a number of other acts: the "Cossack Circle" song and dance group from the Rostov Region, ballet group "PRO dances" from the Komi Republic, the Surgut musical and drama theatre company, leading soloists from the Republic of Ingushetia; Yulia Chicherina and the unique horn orchestra from St. Petersburg.
