Dwell Media and New York Magazine today unveil the name of their joint venture celebrating design, now known as CITY MODERN (http://www.citymodernnyc.com). The partnership is comprised of a joint-publication (out this Fall), 10+ special design events the week of Oct 1-7, and modern home tours in Manhattan & Brooklyn Oct 6 & 7. The Presenting Sponsor of CITY MODERN is Tri-State Audi Dealers. Official Sponsors are faucets and shower products manufacturer GROHE, international lighting company Legrand, home furnishing retailer Arhaus and New York Design Center who will host the opening night party with Audi.
Additionally, Dwell and New York Magazine are the official media sponsors for ‘Archtober’, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York’s month long architecture celebration. The full ‘Archtober’ calendar of events will be inserted in Dwell’s October and New York’s September 24th issues along with the CITY MODERN joint publication. The Dwell and New York partnership came together around a shared goal to highlight October as the premier month for the celebration of architecture and design in NYC.
The CITY MODERN joint publication is co-created by the Dwell and New York editorial teams, led by Amanda Dameron and Wendy Goodman respectively. It will feature designer profiles, unique projects, and sneak peeks of the home tours, as well as a festival guide. The total distribution will be 150,000, tapping a portion of each title’s New York area subscribers and newsstands. Advertising and sponsorships for CITY MODERN are currently being sold by both organizations.
The CITY MODERN logo, custom typeface, and magazine have been designed by award-winning design studio Non Format in collaboration with Dwell’s Creative Director Alejandro Chavetta. Non Format was founded by Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss, and has worked on a range of projects for such clients as Coca-Cola, Gap, IBM and Nike.
CITY MODERN events will feature such design leaders as architecture critic Alexandra Lange, restaurateur & hotelier Andrew Tarlow, Bernhardt Design CEO Jerry Helling, and Guggenheim Assistant Curator of Architecture & Urban Studies David Van Der Leer to name a few. Open studio tours of New York’s favorite young designers will give fans unprecedented access to the creative process.
CITY MODERN Home Tours will take attendees behind the doors of ten custom modern homes in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The architects of these homes will present their design ideas at the “Meet the Architects” Event on Friday, Oct 5 at the Arhaus Showroom in the Meatpacking District. A limited number of home tour and “Meet the Architects” night tickets will go on sale in early August at http://www.citymodernnyc.com. The Grohe Live! Center will be the ticket pick-up location for the Manhattan home tours as well as sponsor of the closing night party.
