The Riverside Company's healthcare specialist Joseph Ibrahim has been named President of the Healthcare Private Equity Association (HCPEA). Ibrahim is a Principal, Healthcare at Riverside, which is among the most active healthcare investors in the world, with more than 60 acquisitions in the sector. Ibrahim brings 25 years of healthcare-focused investment experience to his role.
HCPEA was founded in 2010 by a group of private equity firms in the healthcare industry. The organization supports the reputation, knowledge and relationships of the healthcare private equity community. It includes roughly 50 member firms which hold approximately 400 healthcare portfolio companies.
Ibrahim’s role at Riverside involves the evaluation and sourcing of healthcare acquisitions in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. He plays a key role on Riverside’s formal healthcare specialization effort, which includes two senior advisors. In helping to determine and maintain the firm’s healthcare investment strategy, Ibrahim helps generate more transactions than any other industry for Riverside. Prior to joining Riverside, Ibrahim was Director of Healthcare Private Equity at MBF Healthcare Partners.
“It’s an exciting time to lead HCPEA,” said Ibrahim. “As healthcare expenditures increase around the world, we’re seeing more and more companies that generate cost savings and better outcomes through innovation and expense control, and we’re proud of the role private equity is playing in making healthcare companies more efficient and effective.”
Ibrahim’s role at HCPEA is one of several global leadership initiatives that Riverside has taken in the private equity industry. COO Pam Hendrickson plays a very active role with industry trade bodies, including serving as incoming Vice Chair of the Association for Corporate Growth, sitting on the board of the Private Equity Growth Capital Counsel’s growth capital committee, and serving on the Board of Directors of the Small Business Investor Alliance. Additionally, Riverside Partner Karsten Langer is the outgoing Chairman of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
As President of HCPEA, Ibrahim will lead the organization’s advocacy, research and communication efforts. This includes policy representation through interactions with the government, media and other organizations, and professional development and networking to enhance knowledge sharing and promote best practices.
