With the addition of 85 municipalities in the first six months of 2012, the number of local government endorsements of the Coast2Coast Rx card nationwide reached 200.

The Coast2Coast Rx card, a free discount prescription program endorsed by local government officials across the country, continues to expand its reach and form partnerships with municipalities nationwide. The providers of the card announced today that with the addition of 85 municipalities in the first six months of 2012, the number of local government endorsements nationwide reached 200.

Public officials and governmental entities—including the State County Associations in Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota and Utah—have approved the Coast2Coast card for its comprehensive health benefits to constituents, its ease of use and its ability to serve as a source of revenue for public programs. The feature that sets Coast2Coast Rx apart from other similar programs is that using the free discount card generates a royalty fee to the participating municipality for public projects each time it is used. Given that Coast2Coast distributes the cards; participation in the program does not require added administrative work from government employees.

“The Coast2Coast Rx card is an amazing program: it allows residents to take care of their healthcare needs at discounted rates while generating revenue for public programs,” explained Supervisor Scott Haggerty of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in Alameda, California. “And a significant benefit of the program is that participation does not put an additional administrative burden on counties.”

To ensure that consumers have convenient access to prescription discounts when needed, Coast2Coast Rx will begin distributing redesigned cards that are bilingual and user friendly to pharmacies nationwide. To further increase accessibility of the program, Coast2Coast Rx has continued to improve users’ experience by making upgrades to design and functionality of its website, including an updated appearance, links to its Facebook and Twitter profiles, and a healthcare blog.

All consumers are eligible to use the Coast2Coast Rx card to save up to 75 percent on the cost of more than 60,000 brand name drugs while filling their prescriptions at one of 59,000+ participating pharmacies nationwide. Through partner programs, the card can also be used for discounts on diabetes supplies, pet prescriptions, and services such a lab and imaging, and vision, dental and hearing care. For consumers lacking health insurance, or who are insufficiently covered under a current plan, the card can be a significant cost-saver. It may help offset the expense of high deductibles and in some cases the card can even help relieve costs of the Medicare Part D “donut hole.”

“With more than 49.9 million uninsured individuals nationwide, according to a 2011 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services(1), the Coast2Coast Rx card discount program has already made a significant impact by providing access to more affordable medications,” stated Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “And the benefits are not limited to those who are uninsured—underinsured consumers, those who experience the Medicare Part D “donut hole,” and even those who are fully insured can benefit from using the card. I encourage residents to explore the money-saving benefits of the Coast2Coast Rx card to see what options are the most cost-effective for them.”
