Canadian citizen Joanne, from British Columbia Providence, undergoes weight loss surgery in Mexico to fix her failed Lap-Band Surgery she had performed in the United States.
In British Columbia, Canada patients wait times for bariatric surgery range from 5.5 to 6 years because the dearth of weight loss surgeons. The wait time is even longer in provinces like Nova Scotia, Canada. Deciding to self-pay, she went to Seattle, Washington, USA to undergo gastric banding (lap-band) surgery three years ago.
For three years post-surgery she has been struggling with lackluster weight loss and constant, regular vomiting. Because of the unpleasant outcome of the surgery she began looking into revising the surgery to another option. She decided to go to Mexico because of the talented, expertly trained, dedicated bariatric surgeons and its attractive pricing.
Mexico Weight Loss Surgeons
In the United States and Canada, bariatric surgeons are hesitant to revise any weight loss surgery because of the risks and the lack of experience. Bariatric Surgeons in Mexico are much more trained to handle the intricacies and the unknown aspect of handling revision surgery, especially revising a surgery performed by another surgeon.
After failing to find a competent and experienced surgeon in the United States and Canada, she expanded her search to Mexico. Ultimately, Joanne choose Dr. Alejandro Lopez of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and his wife and fellow bariatric surgeon Dr. Jacqueline Osuna. Dr. Lopez and Dr. Osuna are a special team of bariatric surgeons, as they perform surgeries on patients simultaneously, thereby reducing surgical risks.
After weeks of research Joanne decided to choose bariatric surgeons: Dr. Alejandro Lopez and Dr. Jacqueline Osuna. “I searched reviews online and consistently found Dr. Lopez and his wife Dr. Osuna at the top,” says Joanne. “I liked that fact that they are husband and wife and they perform surgeries together,” she continues.
The Mexico surgeons found that the previous surgeon's job was full of errors. Joanne’s body was not accepting the band (Gastric Band intolerance), which was causing her vomiting. The doctors also noticed the problem with the fill. The port was turned around and US / Canadian doctors did not realize that and they told her lap band has no fill and it is empty. Erosion, slippage and fill are very common reasons why the gastric banding procedure is out of date.
Joanne choose to switch or to revise her surgery from Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve. Gastric sleeve surgery is a newer procedure that is relatively simple. The stomach is restricted in the same fashion as the Lap-Band, by removing up to 85% of the stomach capacity.
Today she is resting in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico healing from her surgical procedure. She has no more vomiting and she is on her way to lose the weight she has been after.
