muvee, the pioneer and leader in automatic movie-making software and services, today announced the launch of Turbo Video Cutter, the first video cutter download that specifically supports GoPro HD video.
With the rise in wearable HD sports and POV cameras, muvee saw a void in the market for easy-to-use and fast HD mP4 trimmers. Hours of raw footage can be taken, but users have to replay the video in its entirety to find the hero moments. muvee CEO and Ironman triathlete, Terence Swee, also experienced this when he completed his first Escape from Alcatraz race. With a different GoPro camera mounted for the swim, bike and run, over eight hours of footage had been recorded. Not all of it was exciting or viewer friendly.
“This was such an iconic triathlon with an exceptionally beautiful course. I wanted to record it to share with my friends back home. Sifting through eight hours of footage was daunting enough. Finding a tool that would allow me to extract the highlights was even more painful. There was nothing out there that let me take those moments and trim and cut them out quickly. I wanted surgical precision and sharpness with zero quality loss. So I had my team create it,” Swee said.
muvee engineers used existing technology from muvee’s mobile phone division (Device Solutions Group) called CODEN which enabled fast video cutting on HTC mobile devices. CODEN, or Compressed Domain Editing ENgine, uses algorithms that take compressed HD video and cut the scene chosen without decoding the original video.
With Turbo Video Cutter, users mark the segment they want, cut it out and hit share. That scene is quickly cut in its original resolution and can then be uploaded to Facebook or Youtube directly. Turbo Video Cutter also allows users to choose from multiple HD clips, even if they are overlapping.
