Poet Shavá Quiñones describes her debut poetry collection “Her Muse Overfilled With Ink” (published by Trafford Publishing) as “… the epitome of love, lust, and appreciation in its simplest form. It captures some of the hidden truths of society that are overlooked on a daily basis and sheds light on some of the finer things in life, such as the positive feelings that come with believing in yourself.”
Quiñones’ collection is broken in three main sections: Love, Fears in Truth, and Dedications. Each of the sub-collections of poems explores the theme of the section title, and the poems are easily accessible for anyone who has ever felt emotions such as love, fear and hope.
Perhaps the clearest dedication for “Her Muse Overfilled With Ink” is found in the author’s preface, excerpted here:
“This is for the misunderstood youth of today’s generation. There are so many ways to characterize the trends that we follow, the styles that influence us and the thoughts that are constantly flowing within the inner workings of our brains. It is absolutely ok to be yourself and follow your beliefs. At the rate that society is changing, it is very easy to get caught between what the cool thing to do is and what we would do given different societal circumstances. Define yourself and do not let anyone define or intimidate the character that you work so hard to let shine by just living each day.”
About the Author
Shavá Quiñones is a writer, artist, student and mother. Her passion for writing has consumed her since age 8. Pleased to see that her writing affected people, she used it as her outlet when it seemed that no one understood her. As a young adult, she aspires to get the youth off of the streets and into positive activity, to help them see that society is not always peachy, but they are strong enough to not get caught up in the negativity that surrounds them. When able, Quiñones volunteers at Shiloh Baptist Church. She is from the Bronx, but finds that New Rochelle is her spiritual home.
