The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin is pleased to announce that attorney Rick Fleming, a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability who leads the firm’s social security department, has been appointed to serve on the North Carolina State Bar’s Social Security Law Specialty Committee.

The committee reviews applications from attorneys looking to become North Carolina Board Certified Specialists in Social Security Disability Law. The committee is also responsible for recruiting candidates, reviewing and updating the examination for the certification, grading the examination, and reporting the results to the North Carolina State Bar.

“It is a great honor to be chosen to serve on the specialization committee, and the firm is proud of Mr. Fleming for this well-deserved recognition,” said President James S. Farrin. “I know that he will bring the same dedication to his work with the North Carolina State Bar as he has brought to fighting for our clients’ rights.”

Mr. Fleming has been appointed to a three-year term on the committee, with the option to renew for an additional term.

The Board of Legal Specialization was created in 1983 to administer the North Carolina State Bar specialization program. According to the State Bar, the board helps to identify “to the public those lawyers who have demonstrated special knowledge, skill, and proficiency in a specific field. By identifying these lawyers, members of the public can more closely match their needs with available services.”

Through specialization, the North Carolina State Bar says that the program also promotes higher standards for lawyers across the state by encouraging them to participate in continuing legal education and meeting other criteria.

The program is only one of 18 state legal certification programs in the United States.
