Editors Jack Burden, Sophia Schmidt, and Robert Wiley have taken a dive into the world of smart TVs to help consumers better understand what kind of features the different TV manufacturers provide on their new TVs for 2012 and 2013. The reviewers state that their reviews offer detail into the pros and cons of each feature set, review included and paid for apps, and give an overall rating for the smart TV suite from each manufacturer.
CEAG editors were most impressed with the amount of content in the form of apps that Samsung has in their Samsung Smart TV Review which stated. “Overall, Samsung still has far and away the best Internet Apps selection of the TV manufacturers with categories, Videos, Most Popular, games, sports, lifestyle, information, education. There is much better free content than the other brands out there and the paid Apps are better and more reasonably priced as well. ” Some of the key apps referred to in the review are Time TV, Explore 3D, MLB.tv, and MTV Music Meter.
The reviewers noted in their Sony Entertaiment Network Review that Sony provided a move in the right direction from previous attempts but left a lot to be desired with the following, "The web browser is, not actually an Internet-wide portal but a browser that only searches Sony's information network such as the Sony Style Store.” In regards to the apps you'll get most of the standard premium apps and a few others like Crackle and Slacker that are worth checking out.
The reviewers found a lot to like in the Panasonic Viera Connect Review, but also made note that most of the content available and worth the time investment must to be paid for with the following, “One of the advantages and innovations for Panasonic for 2012 was to integrate the Apps portion of the TV to the cloud, thus speeding search, load times, and run times.” They also mentioned a lack of free sample 3D content.
The LG Smart TV Review featured a great mix of content and functionality according to the reviewers, as well as a cool magic remote to enhance the overall experience. Editors noted the speed of these TV's combined with a decent internet browser solidifies LG's place in the smart TV market. “First off, know that LG's Smart TV menu and load times are some of the fastest along with Panasonic, but is still slow. The Internet browser option is very easy to use with the full keyboard and fast control through the Magic Remote.”
