Respected medical researchers develop advancements in cardiopulmonary bypass, a key technology used in heart operations.

The Medici Portfolio, LLC today announced that Airmid IP LLC, a Medici managed company, seeks to license a patent portfolio generally related to perfusion circuits used to keep patients alive during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. The patents cover inventions of two respected American clinicians and researchers in the field of cardiovascular surgery, Dr. Venkataramana Vijay, M.D., and Mr. Kevin McCusker, C.C.P.

Airmid IP entered into an agreement with Dr. Vijay and Mr. McCusker to license their patent portfolio. Under the parties’ agreement, Dr. Vijay and Mr. McCusker transferred ownership of their patent portfolio to Airmid IP in exchange for a share of licensing profits.

It is estimated that at least 500,000 cardiopulmonary bypass surgeries are performed in the United States every year. “Cardiopulmonary bypass remains the key technology for more complex cardiac operations. We are excited to be working in conjunction with Airmid IP to bring this technology forward,” stated Mr. McCusker.
