Hong Kong is the perfect setting for action-packed adventure, as noted by films such as Jackie Chan’s internationally successful Police Story series and the upcoming video game Sleeping Dogs. “I wanted to tell a story about the people who lived in Hong Kong at a very chaotic time,” explains author Marya Glyn-Daniel, “a sort of Wild West in the East.” Creating such an epic is Glyn-Daniel’s new book, “Hong Kong Lover” (published by Trafford Publishing).
“Hong Kong Lover” tells the story of Australian night club singer Julia Horton, who books an engagement in Hong Kong and moves to the wild and untamed British territory. She quickly befriends fellow Australian expats Terry O’Keefe and Jack Waterman, as well as Chinese firecracker Lee Cameron, and together the group embarks on a variety of adventures.
Throughout her years in Hong Kong, Julia will experience a harrowing engagement as a USO entertainer in Vietnam, star in an adult film, nearly die from an abortion, and eventually find love and start a family with a Chinese businessman.
“Hong Kong Lover” is racy and funny, written with a wonderful sense of place, with characters that are vulnerable and appealing set in the mesmerizing and dramatic backdrop of Hong Kong.
Glyn-Daniel says, “Read ‘Hong Kong Lover’ and, if you didn’t have a reckless youth, you will wish you had. This is as close and as real as it gets. Funny, gritty and right there in your face.”
