In a number of episodes of the Emmy award-winning television series, “No Reservations,” celebrity chef and travel host Anthony Bourdain traveled to Germany, where he not only visited a number of famed landmarks, but also explored local flavors and cuisines. To share with readers and home cooks a taste of authentic German dishes, Eleanor A. Hinsch pens her new cookbook, German Cooking: Five Generations of Family Recipes (published by Trafford Publishing).

Hinsch was inspired to write her new cookbook after her children asked for recipes that had been handed down through the family. Looking to her grandparents, cousins, aunts, parents and other members of her extended family, Hinsch now shares a collection of over 600 family recipes spanning over 200 years. Each ranges in difficulty, perfect for the beginner cook to the advanced chef.

Hinsch‘s parents, who owned a delicatessen in Brooklyn and later Long Island, N.Y., adds a number of wonderful professionally crafted salad and meat recipes, including catering recipes from the delicatessen and recipes Hinsch used in her own cake decorating and catering businesses.

Though primarily German cooking, Hinsch’s cookbook has over 50 pages of glossary words, types of cheeses, spice and salt substitutes, tactics for choosing fish and poultry, as well as how to clean, cut and serve them.
