Everyone has been there, the carousel starts up and the bags, suitcases and buggies start to make their way around to the crowds of passengers eagerly waiting to grab their belongings and head on over to their holiday resort; however sometimes, not everyone gets their belongings. Identical black suitcases and similar looking duffel bags can easily be picked up by the wrong owner, so others are left with luggage that isn’t theirs., leading online luggage retailer recently conducted an online survey to find out exactly how people plan to avoid this.

Facebook fans and Twitter followers, among other participants, were asked how they ensure that their personal suitcase and travel bag is easily identifiable to them. The survey offered four options so consumers could choose their preference: using luggage tags, tying a piece of brightly coloured string or ribbon to the suitcase, buying a distinctive suitcase to try and avoid any duplications, or simply doing nothing and hoping for the best.

The results were close, however the majority of voters (29%) decided that they would buy a distinctive suitcase beforehand in order to avoid losing their luggage, closely followed by 27% of people who would choose to do nothing and hope for the best. 26% of the voters prefer to add a brightly coloured piece of ribbon or string to identify their suitcase, whilst only 18% of travellers use the luggage tags provided by airlines.
