Recently published research by Ofcom shows that mobile phone calls are in decline, with Britons making 5% less calls in 2011. However, the amount of texts sent per week has doubled since 2008. 4 in 10 people now own a smart phone and overall 68% of adults use text messages, emails and social networking to contact friends and family on a daily basis. Ofcom’s director of research James Thickett said of the results:

“What we are seeing are different ways of keeping in touch. Smartphones and tablets have substituted for making voice calls. It’s about convenience”
