Metadata Partners, LLC announced today the release of Datomic Free Edition. This edition of the Datomic database system (http://datomic.com) is oriented around making Datomic easier to get, and use, for open source and small production deployments.

  •      Datomic Free Edition is free of charge
  •
  • The system supports transactor-local storage
  •
  • The peer library includes a memory database and Datomic Datalog
  •
  • The Free transactor and peers are freely redistributable
  •
  • The transactor supports 2 simultaneous peers

Datomic Free Edition comes with a redistributable license, and does not require a personal or business-specific license. This means users can download Datomic Free, build e.g. an open source application with it, and include Datomic Free binaries with their software. Users can also put the Datomic Free binaries into public repositories and package managers.

There are substantial capabilities contained in the Free Edition, including the Datomic in-process memory database (which is well suited for testing), and the Datomic Datalog engine, which works on both Datomic databases and in-memory collections.

Users can use Datomic Free Edition in production, and in commercial applications.

Datomic Free edition is completely API-compatible with Datomic Pro Edition (the commercial version). Datomic Pro adds the ability to use additional storages like SQL and DynamoDB, support for more peers, a high-availabilty mode for transactors and memcache support (also new in this release).
