Television icon Sherman Hemsley has died at age 74. According to a report from usatoday.com, the actor who brought into life the famous character of George Jefferson passed away on Tuesday. And recognizing his contribution to the American television, GreenBeanBuddy recalled his life and shared a list of celebrities who tweeted their reactions to his passing.

The report detailed that Hemsley died at his home in El Paso. His agent, Todd Frank confirmed his death as attested by the El Paso Sheriff 's Department.

Remembering his works, the site added to its report the actor's achievements. Basically, of all the characters he played, Hemsley was mostly known for his role as the iconic and bigot George Jefferson in the sitcoms “All in the Family,” and “The Jeffersons.” And as the report related, that got Hemsley an Emmy nomination for a lead actor playing the said character in “The Jeffersons” in 1984.

Moments after the reports of his passing, several celebrities tweeted their reactions to Hemsley's death, said GreenBeanBuddy.

It was reported that the Broadway actor and TV veteran passed away at his home in El Paso, Texas on Tuesday. He was 74. And though it was not immediately determined what caused his death, it was then confirmed that he died of natural causes.”

According to entertainment and sports news website GreenBeanBuddy, American television industry lost someone great in Hemsley's death. And with the iconic character he brought to the world and his exemplary comedic skill, it stated that the actor deserved all the complements he was poured with. Among the celebrities who recognized and hailed his work that the site listed were Lenny Kravitz, Tamera Mowry, Alyssa Milano, Seth Green and musician Tom Morello.
