Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) July 26, 2012
Nuun, creators of the best-selling sports drink in bike, run, outdoor specialty and outdoor chain stores, kicks off the Susan G. Komen 3-Day™ Series on July 27-29th in Boston, Massachusetts as the host sponsor and official hydration partner. The partnership marks a renewal for Nuun and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, which began on October 1, 2011, when Nuun launched two special edition flavors with pink caps to benefit Susan G. Komen. From now until December 31, 2013, Nuun will donate $0.50 to Komen for each pink-capped tube of Nuun Active Hydration Strawberry Lemonade and U Natural Hydration Goji Berry Green Tea, sold nationwide. To date, Nuun has raised almost $60,000 for Komen.
As the official hydration partner and host sponsor of the 3-Day™, Nuun Active Hydration will once again be the exclusive hydration/electrolyte drink served on course at aid stations for the entire 14-city tour. In addition, Nuun Active Hydration will be provided to the Komen staff, volunteers and walkers in the base camp. Nuun will have a booth within the camp where participants can sample all eleven flavors of Nuun Active Hydration. Walkers will also be treated to a bistro experience where they can invite their walking team members, friends, and family members attending the 3-Day™ to sit down, socialize and replenish themselves with Nuun after each day’s walk.
The 3-Day™ is a 60-mile walk to end breast cancer forever. Since its inception in 2003, the 3-Day™ has raised nearly $700 million for breast cancer research, scientific programs and community-based breast health and education programs. Each participant will walk approximately 20 miles per day alongside a community of people who are dedicated to this life-changing journey. The event series begins in Boston, Massachusetts on July 27th and ends on November 18th in San Diego, California having visited 14 cities along the way. The walks occur during some of the hottest days of the summer and fall months and Nuun’s optimal blend of electrolytes minus the sugar will keep the walkers hydrated and at peak performance throughout the 3-Day™ events. During these hot conditions, dehydration can occur at a rapid rate and cause muscle fatigue, cramps, headaches, dizziness and decreased performance level. "We are thankful to have Nuun as the official hydration sponsor of the 3-Day," said Dr. Sheri Phillips, Komen 3-Day™ National Spokesperson. "Proper hydration is extremely important for our walkers as they challenge themselves to walk 60 miles over 3 days."
Nuun has provided the walkers delicious and portable hydration throughout the walkers’ training since they registered for the event with Nuun’s “Make Your Miles Count” Hydration Education program at Nuun.com/komen. To prepare and support the 3-Day walkers, Nuun also teamed up with coach and Registered Dietitian Jesse Kropelnicki and Jaime Windrow of The Core Diet to provide pre-event hydration tips and education on Nuun's Blog. The host cities are Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Michigan, Twin Cities, San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Dallas/Fort Worth, Arizona and San Diego.
“We are excited that the Komen 3-Day is finally upon us,” said Mason Reay, President and CEO of Nuun, “We have been educating walkers about the importance of hydration throughout their training journeys and now we will be able to help them attain their goals on-course. We are honored and privileged to hydrate everyone involved in the 3-Day event and love meeting incredible people along the way.”
