Ability Center, one of the nation’s leading wheelchair van and mobility dealers, has today announced their sponsorship of the 22nd Annual National Disabled Water Ski Championships. The championships will be held at Shortline Lake in Elk Grove, California and will run from August 23 through the 25th.
Athletes competing in this amazing event include amputees, quadriplegics, paraplegics, visually impaired athletes, disabled veterans and many others. Sit skis and optional courses are available as well.
There will be three main events during the two-day competition. Disabled athletes will compete in the jump, slalom and trick events. The winners of the championships will form the US Disabled Water Ski Team headed to Italy in 2013, where they will seek a third consecutive world team title.
The first day of the event is actually dedicated to water ski clinics and qualifiers. USA Water Ski Coach Matthew Oberholtz will provide both intermediate and advanced skiers with clinics to help qualify them for the rest of the event. Only 10 skiers from each clinic will be qualified to compete, and preregistration is required.
After two days of competition, there will be an awards banquet on August 25th. Medals will be awarded to the winners, and the lineup for the 2013 US Disabled Water Ski Team that will compete in Italy will be announced afterward.
