weSPARK's 4th Annual 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk To Take Place November 4, 2012 On World Famous Universal Studios Backlot

Online registration is now open for a unique opportunity to run the Universal Studios Backlot in Hollywood. The weSPARK 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk is a family-friendly event attracting thousands of runners each year from the Los Angeles area and across the United States. 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to the LA-based weSPARK Cancer Support Center. The event is Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 7:45 a.m.

Online registration is underway for the 4th Annual weSPARK 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk on the Universal Studios Backlot. Adults and children are invited to participate in this unique athletic competition that offers a spectacular view of Hollywood’s historic dream factory. The 10K & 5K courses are configured past legendary movie sets from Jaws, Psycho House, and War of the Worlds as well as backdrops such as New York Street and Spartacus Square. In addition, the family-friendly event includes an expo featuring walk-around characters, face painting, live music, and famed Los Angeles food trucks. The event will take place 6:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012. The 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk will begin at 7:45 a.m., and the separate Kids’ Fun Run begins at 9:00 a.m.

Anton Maillie, member of weSPARK Board of Directors and Run/Walk race director said, “Our mission is to offer an open and inclusive event that mirrors the spirit of the weSPARK organization. There is something for everyone – from the serious runner seeking a unique destination run, to the local family looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend a Sunday morning.”

“This is our event where everyone gets an opportunity to participate. It’s a joy to see the diversity of the participants who turn out to support family, friends, and our organization,” said Nancy Allen, executive director at weSPARK. “The funds raised through this event allow us to continue offering free services that help lessen the pain and stress of those who are affected by cancer.”

The weSPARK Run/Walk attracts thousands of participants, spectators and volunteers from the greater Los Angeles community as well as from across the United States. "This is our most successful community fundraising event,” added Allen. “It continues to grow each year." The event was founded in 2009 by volunteers who benefited from programs offered by the cancer support center. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event go to the weSPARK Cancer Support Center.

Online pre-registration is $30 for adults and $15 for kids ages 6-10 and is available through 11:59 PM PST, November 1, 2012, at http://www.wesparkrunwalk.org. Children under 5 are free. Participants are encouraged to form teams with their family, friends and/or colleagues. Each participant receives a finisher medal and event t-shirt.
