For over 50 years, Banksiadale was a small idyllic timber milling town near Dwellingup and Pinjarra in the southwest of Western Australia. In its heyday and climaxing in the early 1960s, this place was the gem of all mill towns with its own electricity supply, piped fresh water to all houses and a peaceful, well-behaved community, not even needing a resident policeman. Today, it does not exist anymore. How did it perish and what mysteries lie behind the inexplicable events that occurred in that place? Author James Marsh attempts to dig deeper into this conundrum as he pens Water Covers All Sins, a gripping novel that will take readers to a tangle of convoluted events—a fusion of history, mystery, suspense and murder.
This book reveals how everything in Banksiadale changed in 1963. The mill was mysteriously burnt down, all workers had to leave, and the mill houses were swallowed up and covered by the waters of a new dam, the South Dandalup dam. Other problems emerged when it was discovered some 40 years later that two local residents had been murdered and disposed of in a mill house which was submerged along with other buildings when the dam was flooded. Three detectives have to work painstakingly on various clues to try to track down the killers in this cold case. Their investigation takes them to various parts of the South West including Pinjarra, Collie, Dwellingup and Perth. In the process, they must avoid the snare of the killer who tries to eliminate all traces of evidence that would convict him, even after 40 years. Will they be able to succeed in their mission?
In this book, Marsh exhibits an unrivaled force to amuse and captivate readers with a story that sums up tragic realities, enigmatic occurrences and chilling scuffles against an adverse opponent. He conveys a spine-tingling thriller of awe-inspiring quality that will draw readers into the abyss of overpowering setting where everything is erratic.
This book will be featured at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 10-14, 2012.
