In “Singapore and Asia - Celebrating Globalisation and an Emerging Postmodern Asian Civilisation”, authors TK TI and Edward SW TI invite readers to retrace the history of the world and how it has been reshaped by globalisation and the integration of a global economy. In their work, the rapidly-progressing island-state of Singapore is used as a brilliant case study of the recent resurgence of a postmodern Asian civilisation in the global stage. Singapore is presented as “a veritable social laboratory teeming with clues in ‘best practice’ for successful globalisation, modernity and postmodernity.”

Descended from Chinese immigrants who ventured to British Malaya in the early 1900s, the authors identify themselves as members of a new breed of global citizens who have benefited from globalisation and the fusion of the world’s major civilisations. The authors’ life experiences, research and observations on British Malaya, the Japanese occupation, the Communist struggle, the birth and growth of the Republic of Singapore and their travels to Europe, the United States of America and Australia have helped shaped a uniquely discerning worldview which they share in their book.

As TK TI and Edward SW TI explore pertinent issues of globalisation and civilisations, governance, democracy and human rights and modern and postmodern civilisation, they have succeeded in providing an Asian perspective on the changing world order and how cultural characteristics could have influenced performance in the global economy.

“Singapore and Asia - Celebrating Globalisation and an Emerging Postmodern Asian Civilisation” is more than a study of history and world events; it is an invitation to celebrate culture and key global phenomena (such as globalisation) that may prove useful for nations to become more competitive and successful in the world stage.

This book will be featured at this year’s 2012 Beijing Book Fair in Beijing, China, on August 29-September 2, 2012. For more information on this book, interested parties can log on to

About the Authors
TK TI, a surgeon, academic and educator and his son Edward SW TI, a lawyer, are descendents of poor Chinese immigrants, who in the early 1900s, ventured to British Malaya and became pioneers in the then newly created rubber and tin economy. Straddling across civilisations and in search of identity, the authors have finally found it crystallized in the process of writing their book.
