To celebrate its 15 year anniversary, Intermarkets awards three $5,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors

Each year the number of qualifying applicants has grown, even as the need for journalists with integrity, ethics, and scruples has become more apparent.

Intermarkets, Inc., a leading provider of full-service digital advertising solutions, announces the winners of the annual Intermarkets-Lucido Journalism Scholarship. The scholarship awards recipients Ryan Clancy, Ethan Lee, and Sara Lepley for their noteworthy academic achievements and persuasive essays.

“Five years ago, Intermarkets created the Scholarship to recognize an outstanding graduating senior from a Virginia High school who understands and promotes the importance of non-biased journalism in the United States media. Each year the number of qualifying applicants has grown, even as the need for journalists with integrity, ethics, and scruples has become more apparent. This year, in recognition of the journalists who have contributed to our success, we decided to award three scholarships to mark our 15-year anniversary,” said Chief Executive Officer Kevin Lucido.

“I was really glad that I got the scholarship. Thank you so much,” stated Ryan Clancy of Leesburg, Virginia, “I spent a lot of time on my essay to make sure I got my point across.” Clancy will attend the honors college at East Carolina University.

Ethan Lee, of Vinton, Virginia, expressed his appreciation in a thank you note, “Your generosity has made it possible for me to pursue my dream and goal of becoming a journalist and using my words to teach and educate the world about the issues that are all around them. This scholarship means so much to me because it lets me know that I have weight in my voice, in my words, and that I have a future ahead of me; a future made possible because of your donations and love for journalism.” Lee will attend Lynchburg College.

“I’m really grateful. This scholarship gave me a confidence boost. Thank you so much. It makes a big difference in my family being able to afford college,” said Sara Lepley of Springfield, Virginia, who will attend Virginia Tech.

Applicants were judged on their academic accomplishments, writing samples, and their review of a biased current news article and how it should be changed.

The Northern Virginia Community Foundation manages the annual Scholarship.
