One of the big goals for our retail site’s redesign was to bring artists and fans closer together by highlighting our music discovery features and making the browsing and purchasing experience even more enjoyable
Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 30, 2012
Between July 30th and August 3rd, CD Baby, the world’s largest online distributor of independent music, will not take their standard retail cut of MP3 purchases made on CDBaby.com, the company’s newly redesigned music store. For five days, 100% of the digital download revenue generated on CDBaby.com will be paid to the independent artists around the world who call CD Baby home.
“CD Baby already offers the highest payout on MP3 sales of any digital music retailer out there—75%. That’s more than iTunes, Amazon, Google, etc.,” says CD Baby president Brian Felsen. “And for five days it’s going to be higher still, so musicians will earn even more money when they direct fans to purchase downloads from CDBaby.com. If an artist sells their album download for $9.99, they get paid $9.99.”
Earlier in July, CD Baby launched a brand-new version of its online storefront where independent artists sell CDs, vinyl, and MP3s to millions of music fans around the world. Customer feedback regarding the new site has been overwhelmingly positive.
“One of the big goals for our retail site’s redesign was to bring artists and fans closer together by highlighting our music discovery features and making the browsing and purchasing experience even more enjoyable,” says Felsen. “We thought it would be cool to also pass 100% of digital revenue back to the artists for 5 days—helping them sell more music AND earn more money per sale. It’s also a great way for artists to reach out to their fans, who are happy to know their financial support of an artist will literally go further to help that artist record another album, budget for a tour, or shoot a video.”
[Note: CD Baby’s limited-time 0% cut ONLY applies to MP3 sales on CDBaby.com, NOT their distribution partner sites like iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, etc.]
CD Baby is the largest digital distributor of independent music in the world. CD Baby distributes over 4 million tracks to dozens of music retailers including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Rhapsody, and Spotify, and pays artists weekly for their product sales. From their Portland, OR headquarters, CD Baby warehouses and ships over 360,000 independent CD titles to a customer base that spans the entire globe. The company also offers other services to musicians such as the ability to accept credit cards at shows, web hosting through their sister company HostBaby, and eBook distribution through BookBaby.
