There are lots of reasons residents of Boca Raton, Fla., love their city by the sea. World-class shopping at the Town Center at Boca Raton mall, a vibrant bar and restaurant scene at Mizner Park, art museums galore and miles of sandy beaches are among them.

The subtropical South Florida suburb also is home to several spectacular country clubs and offers a variety of Boca Raton homes on the ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and golf courses. The golf scene in Boca Raton is impressive – the high-caliber Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, St. Andrews Country Club and Woodfield Country Club are among the real-estate choices – and it attracts players from all over the world.

One of them is Bernhard Langer, who finished sixth in the Senior British Open in Turnberry, Scotland. Waterfront Properties and Club Communities sends congratulations to its Boca Raton neighbor, as well as local residents Mark Calcavecchia and Olin Browne, for a job well done in the final major of the Champions Tour season.

Palm Beach County has emerged as a haven for Tour professionals because of its exceptional weather, proximity to the beach, fabulous fishing, and availability of art, culture and entertainment. It has been described as the new golf capital of the world.

On the final day of the Open, Langer, 54, shot a 75 to tie John Cook, Peter Fowler and Mark Wiebe. He earned $53,205. Calcavecchia, 52, who lives in the northern Palm Beach County / southern Martin County enclave of Tequesta, shot a final-round score of 66 and tied four other players – Jay Don Blake, Tom Lehman, Tom Watson and Ian Woosnam – for 10th place. “Calc,” as he is known, took home $32,904.

Browne, of Hobe Sound, tied Michael Allen and Mark McNulty for 18th place and earned $23,680. The 53-year-old shot a final-round score of 70.
