Weather Central will Give Property Loss Research Bureau Members Real-Time Severe Weather Info for Rapid, Efficient Response to Storms

Weather Central’s Real-Time Data about Unfolding Weather Events to Provide More than 900 PLRB Member Companies with Local, Actionable Info from within PLRB’s new Web-Based GIS Service

Weather Central, LP, today announced that its severe weather data products have been selected by the Property Loss Research Bureau to deliver real-time storm forecast and impact information to its more than 900 member insurance companies through PLRB’s new Catastrophe Service Map program. The solution will take advantage of the Weather Central DataCloud™ API and the weather industry’s largest real-time data server infrastructure to provide PLRB members with highly local, one kilometer resolution information to see the locations and impact severe weather is having on policy holders.

PLRB will also use Weather Central data services to underpin its array of research services and information products for the insurance industry.

As a result, our members will have the information they need to respond quickly and effectively to policyholders’ needs, while being more efficient in the use of their resources.”

The data solution for PLRB includes four radar analysis products from Weather Central:

  •     HailVision – Highly accurate, radar-derived estimates of hail size and location that are updated every five minutes
  •     RainVision – Radar-derived rainfall totals updated every five minutes
  •     IceVision - Radar-derived ice accumulation updated every five minutes
  •     SnowVision - Radar-derived snowfall accumulation updated every five minutes

Weather Central’s DataCloud API will enable PLRB to integrate weather data within their new GIS system being developed by GeoDecisions. The API enables insurers to integrate critical weather data with their policyholder database to analyze storm impact in real-time.
