Boston, MA (PRWEB) July 31, 2012
The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) has officially chartered its newest chapter to serve the unmanned systems community in the New England States of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. AUVSI New England Chapter corporate member companies include Boston Engineering, Bluefin Robotics, iRobot, Raytheon, Rolls Royce, SEA Corp, QinetiQ, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and Ultra Electronics Measurements Systems Inc. along with 360 existing AUVSI members currently representing over 131 high technology companies already participating in unmanned air, space, land and sea applications.
"Many of us in the New England region felt a strong need to develop a local chapter to better serve the rapidly growing unmanned systems community," said Warren Freda, AUVSI New England Chapter Co-Founder, President and Director. "Now we have a forum to come together to serve military, government, commercial and academic organizations utilizing unmanned air, ground , and maritime vehicles for a variety of applications including mapping, security, search and rescue, inspection, and exploration among a host of other emerging areas for unmanned systems."
With a significant concentration of companies, universities and research facilities situated within coastal states, the New England chapter will focus on supporting and advocating Sea, Land and Air interoperability for unmanned systems. In addition to the Maritime expertise present in New England, the chapter possesses a strong presence in both ground and air vehicles with the robotics corridor located in Massachusetts and a variety of aerial vehicle companies, both rotary and fixed-wing, located throughout the six state region.
The mission of the New England Chapter is to engender enthusiasm in unmanned systems through professional development, networking, advocacy and public outreach. The chapter will achieve this mission by fostering networking of industry in the region to stimulate technology development and business, becoming a resource for schools and universities to inspire our next generation of engineers, scientists and business people and by advocating for our region through our elected representatives. The chapter will be sponsoring a number of events starting in October with a 2 day Maritime focused program being held at the Navy War College in Newport, RI.
