The World’s Fastest Lawn Mower, members of the National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame and Turf Titans from across the U.S. and Canada will kick grass in Southern Maryland for two days of sod slinging action at the 8th annual STA-BIL St. Mary’s County National Lawn Mower Races, Friday-Saturday, August 3-4, 2012, 7:00pm at Bowles Farms, 22880 Budd’s Creek Rd (Rte. 234), in Clements, Maryland.
The bladeless mow down will feature racing mower action at speeds up to 60 mph. Racers compete for points, trophies, bragging rights and garden gnomes, not cash prizes. Racing is sanctioned by the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA), which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2012, and is sponsored by STA-BIL®, America's top selling fuel stabilizer.
Event highlights include the appearance The World’s Fastest Lawn Mower and its owner Bobby Cleveland, Gold Eagle’s Engine Answerman, who set the World Lawn Mower Land Speed Record of 96.529 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats (Sept. 25, 2010), along with National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame members Chuck Miller (2009), Art Neavill (2011) and Bruce Kaufman, “Mr. Mow It All” USLMRA Founder & President who will be inducted during Labor Day Weekend at the 20th Anniversary STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals national lawn mower racing championships.

Each year over 9,000 spectators witness two days of grass kicking racing action racing as part of the STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series. The racing field will include several Maryland-based lawn mower racing superstars including 2011 USLMRA Driver of the Year Wally Bender, DelMarVa Lawn Mower Racing Association President Manny Torres, Mason-Dixon Lawn Mower Racing Association President Lou Filos, 3-Time SP Class Champion Jason Brown and Eastern Seaboard Racing Ambassador Jackie Andrews as well as 2010-2009 Driver of the Year Richard Webb from Michigan and Ryan Kerr and his Ryker Racing Team from the Western Ontario Outlaws in Ontario, Canada.
To further mark this “mowmentous” occasion, Francis Jack Russell, President of the County Board of Commissioners of St. Mary’s County Maryland, will proclaim Friday and Saturday, August 3rd and 4th 2012, as Mow Town Days in St. Mary’s County.
Additional activities include a children’s moon bounce, kiddy tractor pull, John Deere Toy Display, K-9 demonstrations and an antique tractors display as well as a Mini Excavator Challenge. The races benefit the 7th District Rescue Squad and the 7th District Optimist Club of St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
