Papa's Boxes, an internationally recognized creator of custom cigar box instruments, recently announced the national distribution of their handmade creations. Papa's Boxes has experienced an unprecedented demand for their custom cigar box instruments around the world, and will be taking a national focus with their work.
Papa's Boxes creates custom cigar box instruments, including homemade guitars, banjos and ukuleles. They also provide DIY musical instrument kits for aspiring woodworkers and musicians who want to craft their own handmade wooden instrument. Bill Moore, owner of Papa's Boxes, says that making a cigar box instrument is a great hobby for musicians and anyone who enjoys crafts.
"Homemade instruments are en vogue, so the cigar box acoustic guitar, as old-fashioned as it might seem, currently has a certain hip appeal," said musician Walker Hayes on the Papa's Boxes blog. "These can produce a really great folksy sound to go along with their look, and the result is what you've always been looking for: sheer stage presence."
For over eight years, Papa's Boxes craftsman Bill Moore has designed and created musical instruments using simple woodworking materials and cigar boxes. His unique instruments have appeared in an off Broadway musical in New York City and at the National Cigar Box Guitar Museum.
"From one Cigar Box Festival in the spring of 2004, to a full-blown passion for creating these amazing instruments--This is Papa's Boxes." said Bill Moore, the "Cigar Box Papa." Papa's Boxes ship their instruments anywhere in the world. About the company:
Papa’s Boxes is a family business, operating in the quaint town of Navassa, North Carolina (right outside of Wilmington). Bill Moore, also known as “Papa”, and the owner of Papa’s Boxes, first began this company after attending a Cigar Box Guitar Festival in the Spring of 2004. Bill is a woodworker by trade, and also enjoys a cigar or two every now and then; so his hobbies have turned into a business that provides the joy of instrument-making and custom instruments to people around the world. Although the instruments are mainly focused around a cigar box, Bill has built a custom bass guitar using a wooden wine case box, for an Internet podcast called “The SoupyGato Show”. In 2006, a Papa’s Boxes Ukulele was inducted into the National Cigar Box Guitar Museum. Papa’s Boxes also has the honor of having four concert ukuleles appear in the off Broadway musical in NYC called “Sex, Drugs, and Ukuleles”.
