birthdayFB, the web-based facebook birthday app known for its ability to allow users to schedule happy birthday wall posts, announced that it is now undergoing the early stages of expanding the web-based app onto iPhones and in the future other smart devices including Androids. The iPhone app would allow existing and new birthdayFB users to automatically post happy birthday facebook wall posts on the morning (or in the afternoon if the user prefers) of their friends’ birthdays. Thus far birthdayFB has thousands of users utilizing the service on a daily basis.
“It’s clear from the success that the facebook birthday app has had that there is interest in the concept of pre-scheduling happy birthday wall posts. Getting birthdayFB in the app store is the natural next step,” says founder Geoff Lilienfeld. Lilienfeld is a serial entrepreneur whom founded the facebook birthday app in early 2012. “Honestly, I haven’t done much to publicize birthdayFB in the last few months but we keep having more and more users pouring in.”
The birthdayFB iPhone app is expected to be very similar to the web-based app and will maintain similar functionality. birthdayFB currently has a simple interface that allows users to view their facebook friends in order of their birthdays and pre-schedule happy birthday wall posts. “We tried our best to keep birthdayFB clean and simple. The point of the app is to pre-schedule happy birthday facebook messages and that’s exactly what it does,” Lilienfeld tells us. “At this point we don’t have any intention of adding functionality. If we do decide that we’d like to see other cool things users could do with facebook we will likely develop completely separate apps.”
Lilienfeld is hoping to allow iPhone users to schedule their happy birthday facebook posts directly from their iPhone by the end of October. Lilienfeld told us that he plans to develop as much of the application in HTML 5 as possible to allow easy migration onto other platforms such as Androids and even Windows Mobile based devices. Lilienfeld chose this angle because: “HTML 5 is a great way to keep apps simple while still being able to access native features of iPhones such as the camera and even the GPS.”
