Building "green" products can sometimes drive prices sky-high, that is, unless said products work to save consumers money over time. Wilshire Homes, Austin’s premier community builder of customized lifestyle homes and family homes, has discovered this sweet spot with its latest summer sales event “Beat the Heat.”
Green home buyers have until the end of the summer season – August 31 – to purchase brand new, energy efficient homes and receive guaranteed heating and cool costs for two years. During this time, the Efficiency Promise Program agrees to pay the difference in all heating and cooling costs that surpass the “Guaranteed Usage” established on the “Energy Efficiency Promise” Certificate. Wilshire has launched this savvy savings opportunity in new Austin home communities, including custom homes in Cedar Park, Georgetown, Hutto, Leander, Manor, Pflugerville and Round Rock. With energy prices on the rise, homebuyers are influenced now more than ever by the energy savings from building a new home as opposed to buying an older and less energy-efficient model.
“Some people ask ‘what’s the catch?’” says regional sales manager, Jimmy Derks. “[After] people purchase their homes, they’re worrying about their utility bill on a monthly basis. What “Beat the Heat” sales event allows us to do is offset the expenses it costs them to own a home.”
According to Derks, the fixed-rate plan is especially popular among families with active children, in addition to empty-nesters and military home buyers, who feel they can reallocate the savings accrued from a smaller utility bill towards buying a larger home.
Wilshire’s energy efficiency is widely-recognized by the EPA and the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) in their Quality Assurance Program. Individually, each home is also tested and certified as an ENERGY STAR® Home. Their green efforts have impressed other major third party programs like Green Built Texas (GBT), which qualify homes built to the highest standard of water and energy efficiency, indoor air quality, waste recycling, site management, materials and homeowner education.
With the backing of respected programs like EPA, RESNET, ENERGY STAR®, and GBT, homebuyers participating in Wilshire’s “Beat the Heat” this summer will save more energy and money than thought possible. Who would have ever thought you could beat the Texas summer heat?
