The FT881 Integrated Circuit provides a low cost controller solution for Buck LED Drivers

Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc. Director of Communications, Shu Min Panfil announced the introduction of the FT881, an open loop current mode LED driver integrated circuit that is ideally suited for Buck LED drivers. The device can be programmed to operate in either a constant frequency or constant off-time mode.

“The FT881 adds to the growing portfolio of Fremont Micro Devices LED lighting solutions,” said Shu Min Panfil, Director of Communications Fremont Micro Devices USA. “The device provides a switch mode controller for single switch LED drivers solution which will enable high growth application like RGB backlighting, backlighting flat panel displays and signage plus decorative LED lighting. Of particular importance is the FT881 requires only three external components to produce a controlled LED current making it an ideal solution for low cost LED Drivers,” she added.

The device can be programmed to operate in either a constant frequency or constant off- time mode. The FT881 integrates a 15-500V linear regulator which allows operability over a wide range of input voltages without an external low voltage power supply. This feature decrease system level cost.

The FT881 is available in a SOP-8 package. The list price is $0.45 for volume orders of 2.5ku.
