About the Author
Cynthia Ann Boesen Parker was born on October 9, 1964 and has had a lifetime filled with challenges. She overcame each, one at a time, and is the Cindy Parker that people know today. When she was 5 years old, she had strep throat. It went into her inner ear, lodging itself between the 3rd and 4th ventricles, in the center of her brain. She had head surgery nine times (this is in 1969, when there was no technology) and was in a coma for 11 months. She had to learn to do everything all over again: walking, talking, everything. Having had a trauma to her head, she incurred a learning disability, which has followed her for a lifetime. It has, in some respects, made her life hell, because there are things of which she is not capable, regardless of how hard she tried. In spite of the disability, she earned a degree in Psychology from College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Moving then, to Sarasota, Fla., she took computer classes at the vocational school there. Furthering her knowledge of the computer, she took courses at the local junior college. Unable to meet the math requirement, she quit the degree program with but one course remaining: Intermediate College Algebra.
