Greenwood Village, Colorado (PRWEB) August 01, 2012
Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSU-Global) is pleased to announce that it has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships to students for the Fall 2012 terms. Twenty-one students in total were awarded funds through institutional scholarship programs to help pay for their tuition as they work towards earning their degrees.
“Through our scholarship programs, we work to provide our students with financial assistance to support their dedication to their degree completion,” said CSU-Global Campus President Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker. “The scholarship recipients represent the spirit of CSU-Global as they have made their education a priority while still managing family, workplace, community, and other life obligations.”
The eligibility criteria for the 11 institutional scholarship programs offered by CSU-Global support the university’s mission and diverse student body. The scholarship criteria include first generation college students, U.S. military personnel and their dependants, parents or guardians, and academic excellence. Scholarship recipients were chosen from nearly 200 qualified applicants, and will receive tuition assistance for up to 12 credit hours towards a bachelor’s degree or up to six credit hours towards a master’s degree for the Fall 2012 terms. CSU-Global is a public institution within the CSU System, but it does not receive state appropriations. The scholarship awards, and all operating costs, come exclusive from the university’s own revenue.
“Our students are working hard to achieve their personal and professional goals so these scholarships are one way that we can support and reward their efforts,” Dr. Takeda-Tinker continued.
In addition to these scholarship programs, CSU-Global again joined with Denver/Boulder radio station 97.3 KBCO to award a scholarship to the 2012 Colorado Teacher of the Year. Haley Todd was nominated by her peers and selected by the CSU-Global scholarship committee for her exemplary work as the GED Specialist for Urban Peak in Denver. She receives a full-tuition scholarship to the Master of Science in Teaching and Learning program at CSU-Global as a part of her award.
“I’m so honored to be recognized for the work that so many of us do every day… Thanks to KBCO and CSU-Global for pulling together to recognize all the teachers,” Haley said in an on-air interview.
