Michelle Catenacci, MD, an infertility specialist who has advanced expertise in reproductive surgery, has joined the Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago.

"Dr. Catenacci's clinical knowledge and her surgical expertise will further improve our ability to help patients achieve their family building goals," says board-certified reproductive endocrinologist Richard Sherbahn, MD, director of the Center's in vitro fertilization (IVF) program. "The Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago has been widely recognized for many years for achieving consistently higher IVF success rates. In 2010, our live birth success rate for women under 35 was 60%, a rate 36% higher than the national average of 44%."

Dr. Catenacci has had extensive training in the most up-to-date minimally invasive surgical techniques with experience in operative hysteroscopy for treatment of fibroids, uterine septums, and uterine adhesions. She is experienced with both traditional laparoscopy and robotic surgery in the treatment of uterine fibroids.

“I was fortunate to train with some of the leaders in reproductive surgery,” says Dr. Catenacci. “Having such a strong surgical background is becoming unusual in our field. I find it rewarding to be able to handle even the difficult cases in the operating room.”

In addition to laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Catenacci has had significant experience in tubal reanastamosis surgery which can be performed in order to "reverse" tubal ligation surgery. "Most women who want to get pregnant again after their tubes are tied prefer IVF over having a tubal reversal performed. However, I understand that IVF is not for everyone. Therefore, tubal reversal surgery is an important service to be able to offer our patients.”

Dr. Catenacci has had multiple publications in the field of reproductive medicine. These include articles pertaining to endometriosis and infertility and the use of robotics in reproductive surgery.

She has written book chapters and has given several national presentations. These presentations have included both research abstracts and surgical technique videos and have garnered her recognition at national conferences.

Dr. Catenacci completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH. Her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology was done at MetroHealth Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic. She earned her medical degree from Wayne State University Medical School in Detroit, MI. Dr. Catenacci is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and is board-eligible in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
