The Netherlands (PRWEB) August 28, 2012
Right now the average US consumer spends about 8 hours per day in a passive mode behind TV, computers and mobile devices*.
WIth obesitas becoming an ever growing problem on society, some computer companies are helping consumers to get active again. The producers of gameconsoles have all introduced more active gameplay. Microsoft has the Kinect for XBOX360 with fitness programs and Sony has Playstation Move while Nintendo has the Wii to allow for more active gameplay.
But the biggest global market of mobile phone owners has not seen any games that made them get out of their comfortable couches. A dutch Company is trying to change that.
Meet Maarten Mensink, a 20 year old male from the Netherlands:
"I only play games on my mobile phone or game console. I have played laserquest and paintball in the past which was fun but it's too time consuming to get there and change gear. But I recently discovered MobileWar for Android. We go outside with friends and we can play paintball with our mobile phones. We can make teams and shoot at eachother, while points are given when I hit the other team. The game uses GPS which is much more accurate than I thought. After playing for an hour we are exhausted, but most of all it's great fun to play outdoors again."
Calling out to mobile developers to build activating apps
CEO Jacco Gruiters from Upright Media Concepts is hoping other developers will soon jump on the bandwagon to create activating apps. "We are working for the largest global market and we can make a change by coming up with creative and fun apps that will help consumers become active again. Nike is doing an excellent job helping runners, but we need to get to the people that are not into sports yet. I honestly hope we can help make this change together as I am afraid we are going to need it as a society more than ever before."
Currently MobileWar is available only for Android but the company behind it is working on an Iphone version which is expected soon.
MobileWar is available in a free version and a full version which is $1.99 or EUR 1,49.
