Following the successful first two weeks of the Tahoe Bike Challenge, a conjoint effort between the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, Linus Bikes responds to the preliminary study results.

On August 2nd, 2012, commuter bike manufacturer Linus Bikes released a statement about the statistics compiled in the 7th year of the Tahoe Bike Challenge, a venture sponsored by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, which is designed to not only improve the quality of life for the participants but also to contribute to the environment’s well being.

The data collected during this study focuses not just on environmental considerations but economic ones as well. During the first two weeks of June, according to the article, 400 cyclists “logged 13,800 miles and 3,800 bike trips just getting to work and doing errands as part of the Tahoe Bike Challenge.” The article goes on to state that the study helps provide data for the environment, economy, and community and subsequently for planning out future projects focused on each sector.

According to China Reevers, a Linus Bikes representative, “This initiative is a wonderful balance of the different aspects of bicycling programs. Linus crafts commuter bikes for this purpose – to replace the typical form of travel, being the car or train. Having a green initiative like this affect the ways that the city is planned is tremendous. It’s groundbreaking. What better way to study the way that people use bicycles than to have your citizens participate in the study? They are contributing to their own city’s future, which is at its core, what sustainability is all about. Studies which encompass the spectrum of impacted areas only serve to heighten awareness and effectiveness of green movements such as this. As more people continue to participate in these studies, the impact on their own communities and their lives will be directly affected. These changes will only encourage future participation, creating a positive cycle of change.”
