The Newport Beach Police Department today announced its plans to collaborate with Harbor Distributing, L.L.C. and HEINEKEN USA to remind local citizens of the importance of the responsible consumption of alcohol. During the 29th annual National Night Out against crime event, the Newport Beach Police Department will provide parents with the Health Alliance on Alcohol’s “Facts & Conversations” booklets, a resource to help them educate their children and start the potentially challenging conversations around underage access to alcohol.

National Night Out is an annual event where citizens throughout the country are asked to LOCK their doors, TURN ON outside lights, and spend the evening out with community neighbors and police. The event is designed to share anti-crime and safety efforts with the community and strengthen police and community partnerships. It also offers various resources and information on a host of safety topics, such as alcohol and drug prevention, and education about crime prevention for the community. The Newport Beach Police Department will be celebrating this event with a Community Barbecue and Safety Fair. National Night Out in Newport Beach will be held on August 7 from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M., at Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach, California.

The Health Alliance on Alcohol’s “Facts & Conversations” book series is part of a national education initiative to reduce the underage consumption of alcoholic beverages through parent/child communications. The books are designed to provide parents with techniques to initiate sometimes difficult conversations with their children about alcohol. Books covering Teen Driving & Alcohol, Tough Questions from Parents on Teens and Alcohol, and Parents & Underage Access to Alcohol will be available at the Alcohol Awareness booth during the National Night Out event. The complete nine-part book series -- available in both English and Spanish -- can be viewed or downloaded for free at http://www.HealthAllianceonAlcohol.com.

“We are excited about this event and the opportunity the Newport Beach Police Department will have to meet with residents in an informal, yet educational environment. The anti-crime, as well as drug and alcohol awareness, resources available at National Night Out will be useful for community members of all ages. We thank our partners for their contributions and support for this event. It is an honor to be associated with the NBPD and the citizens of the community, and I sincerely hope that everyone can stop by and benefit from what this event will offer,” said Chief Jay Johnson, Newport Beach Police Department.

“We are proud to partner with the Newport Beach Police Department and Heineken USA to help prevent access to alcohol by minors and to educate the community on great resources such as the Health Alliance on Alcohol books,” said Tom Reyes, President of Harbor Distributing. “National Night Out is a powerful community event providing valuable information to people of all ages.”

“As the leading upscale beer importer, at HEINEKEN USA, we make responsible consumption awareness a top priority,” said Stacey Tank, Senior Vice President & Chief Corporate Relations Officer, HEINEKEN USA. “We’re thrilled to partner with Harbor Distributing and the Newport Beach Police Department to provide parents, mentors and community leaders with a set of tools to engage teens in honest, fact-based conversations around alcohol and its effects.”
