Extensive Terminal 3 at Las Vegas Airport Open For Passengers

The new Terminal 3 at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada opened June 27, 2012. The $2.4-billion project, which began in 2005 and was completed this year, will function for both domestic and international flights. The terminal, which is 1.9 million sq ft and three stories tall, will add 14 new gates as well as 16 baggage carousels.

One of the key building materials for the project was StoneLite® panels from Stone Panels, Inc. PGAL architects oversaw the construction involving StoneLite® panels, which included 110,000 sq ft of Gascogne Beige Limestone StoneLite® panels. The project was finished with the panels on both exterior and interior applications in the new terminal and were of an open joint (rain screen) design.

The immense undertaking of the project presented no difficulty to Stone Panels, Inc. because of the efficiency of StoneLite® panels. McCarran Airport welcomes about 40 million visitors to Las Vegas each year and is expected to see more due to the expansion and growth provided by the new terminal.

StoneLite® panels were developed and patented more than 44 years ago in Ireland. Production came to the United States in 1983 and moved to their current 175,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility located in Coppell, Texas in 2002. The first notable exterior cladding project in the United States was a five-story office building in Dallas completed in 1980.
