Breakwater Equity Partners, a commercial loan workout firm, continues to add new team members to its rapidly growing staff. Breakwater has added Sue Tumay, Bankruptcy Case Manager, to its legal team, Marcus Wiemers and Ashley Clements to the Business Development team, and Joel Munoz and Dan Buoye, Financial Analysts, to the finance team. The demand for commercial loan workouts has been increasing and the five new professionals will reinforce and strengthen Breakwater’s existing operations.

Sue Tumay brings more than seven years of experience to the Bankruptcy Case Manager position. She is a licensed attorney with extensive legal experience in the bankruptcy field. Susan worked as an Associate at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP and at Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, where she gained experience in multiple areas of the law, including bankruptcy and litigation. Recently Susan served as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Southern District of California U.S. Bankruptcy Court, where she gained experience in the Chapter 11 reorganization process. Along with her bankruptcy experience, Susan has worked for a non-judicial foreclosure trustee, Quality Loan Service Corp., becoming familiar with legal issues associated with wrongful foreclosure. Susan has a BS in Accounting from Arizona State University and graduated summa cum laude with her JD from the University of San Diego School of Law.

Marcus Wiemers has over 10 years of real estate and legal experience that he brings to his Business Development role at Breakwater. He started his career at Hollins, Schechter, et al. as a litigation paralegal. He then spent time at GMAC where he ensured compliance with state and federal laws and GMAC procedures. Prior to joining Breakwater, Marcus worked at 24 Asset Management where he gained knowledge of title, escrow, and property related real estate law and regulation. He has a BS in Criminal Justice from Cal State University, Long Beach; an MBA from the University of Phoenix with an emphasis in Technology Management; and a paralegal certificate from the University of California, Irvine.

Ashley Clements adds over 14 years of experience to her role in Business Development on Breakwater’s team. She started out as an Executive Assistant at John Mitchell Associates, a Real Estate firm, and then became a Realtor for Coldwell Banker and Barratt American where she honed her sales and customer service skills while assisting her clients reach their goal of home ownership. Her background includes an Associate position at the La Jolla Finance Corporation where she created and maintained client relationships with distressed property owners and banks. She was also an Escrow Coordinator with Maxine and Marti Gellens, at Prudential California Realty, prior to joining Breakwater. She has a BA in Spanish with a minor in English Literature from Southern Methodist University and the University of Veracruz, Xalapa.

Joel Munoz has accumulated over 20 years of experience in real estate acquisitions, development, and finance. As a Financial Analyst at Breakwater, his role is to understand the various commercial real estate markets and apply a disciplined financial analysis to navigate the unique challenges facing every property. Prior to joining Breakwater, Joel was a Senior Financial Analyst for Global CRES, a commercial real estate acquisition firm, where he performed underwriting duties and capital market activities for value added and stabilized opportunities. He also worked as an assistant project manager with Chelsea Development Corporation, an affordable home developer; prior to that he was an owner and broker at Microvest Real Estate, a firm that focused on small balance commercial loans. He earned his MS in Real Estate from the University of San Diego and graduated from San Diego State University with an MS in Finance and a BS in Finance from University of Nevada.

Dan Buoye utilizes his seven years of real estate acquisitions, development, asset management and brokerage experience in his current role as Financial Analyst, enabling him to provide in-depth market research and financial analysis on the firm's engagements. Prior to joining Breakwater, Dan was an Acquisitions Analyst and Assistant Asset Manager for Urban Investment Partners, a Washington, D.C.-based, multifamily real estate acquisition firm. There he developed his underwriting skills and successfully performed asset management activities for value added and historical properties. Dan also worked as a commercial real estate broker for RCI Properties in Riverside, CA. He earned his MS in Real Estate from the University of San Diego and graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.
