Lawrence, MA (PRWEB) August 01, 2012

Charm Sciences, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO-T&V, Belgium) released, on July 19, their report validating Charm Sciences’ Beta-lactam 3 Minute Test (MRLBL3) as appropriate for use as a screening test at dairies and farms for raw commingled milk. Results showed low incidence of false positives with comprehensive detection of the class of beta-lactam antibiotics. This test was validated in accordance with the recent European guidelines of the Community Reference Laboratories (CRL) for validating screening methods.

The Charm MRLBL3 is a ROSA (Rapid One Step Assay) lateral flow test for commingled raw milk that confirms the presence of most beta-lactams residues at or below EU maximum residue limits (MRLs). Total testing time is 3 minutes.

The validation was performed on both the ROSA Pearl Reader and the new Charm-EZ incubator/reader. The Charm EZ system was introduced in November 2011.

Results from the ILVO-T&V report demonstrated that both ROSA readers gave equivalent readings and analysis, having comparable averages, standard deviation and CV of the same strips.

The report also confirmed that the method was easily performed using existing and new Charm Sciences equipment at dairy laboratories. The ILVO-T&V Report also showed test results confirming low incidence (0.13%) of false positives from 765 random farm and truck tank samples that tested negative by other screening methods.

“We are pleased that ILVO, the veterinary reference laboratory of Belgium, has confirmed our label claims that the test meets EU MRL detection levels and that the method is appropriate for all types of commingled cow raw milk.* Additional data of ewes’ and goats’ milk will be released in a supplemental study”, said Bob Salter, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Charm Sciences. “Wim Reybroeck and Sigrid Ooghe (authors of the report) are widely recognized as experts in this field and they are the leaders in method validation with a comprehensive evaluation that implements the European CRL Guidelines for evaluating screening tests.”

Most raw milk tested worldwide is performed on Charm ROSA tests.
