Former BuzzMetrics Executive to Assist Fast-Growing Cord Blood Bank to Continue Capturing Market Share from Industry Giants, ViaCord and CBR.

August 6, 2012 – Americord Registry, a leader in cord blood, cord tissue and placenta tissue banking, today announced the appointment of Jerry Needel to their already robust Advisory Board. A digital marketing and social media veteran, Mr. Needel is the CEO of Longtail Strategies, a consultancy focused on activating, amplifying and channeling consumers in support of business objectives. He has deep experience scaling high-growth start-ups and disrupting long-established categories.

“We are excited to have Jerry on board to guide us in the development and implementation of a social media strategy that will connect us with an even greater number of potential clients,” said Martin Smithmyer, President and CEO of Americord Registry. “Social media is a relatively inexpensive way for us to communicate directly and effectively with expecting parents.”

Americord Registry, management believes, is the fastest growing company in the cord blood industry with more than 200% year-over-year growth. As a part of the company’s strategy, Americord has kept a tight lid on sales and marketing expenses, which has supported their efforts to make storing cord blood more affordable to more people. Americord Registry offers cord blood storage at prices approximately 50% lower than those of other cord blood industry leaders, including ViaCord and CBR, while maintaining the highest quality standards. Americord also offers cord tissue and placental tissue banking.

“I am looking forward to helping Americord Registry launch a dynamic social media presence that will educate parents-to-be on the promise of Americord’s unique approach to serving today’s generation of children,” said Jerry Needel.

Prior to founding Longtail Strategies, Mr. Needel held a number of business leadership and general management roles at The Nielsen Company, the world's largest market research firm. While there, he helped to build and lead BuzzMetrics, a Nielsen company that measures, analyzes and leverages the conversations of online consumers. BuzzMetrics ultimately became part of a joint venture, NM Incite, between Nielsen and McKinsey & Company focused on helping C-level executives harness the strategic potential of social media.

Mr. Needel is the latest addition to Americord Registry’s Advisory Board. He joins Dr. Robert Dracker, a leading hematologist, pediatric oncologist, and experienced blood and stem cell banking expert, Dr. Eric Adler at UC San Diego Medical Center, and Joseph Yahner, a retired Senior Executive of Guidant Corporation their parent company, Eli Lilly.
